Deadline for Habitat for Humanity Build Sign-Up!

Habitat for Humanity Interfaith Build

Beth Shalom will be participating in the Bloomington Habitat for Humanity Interfaith Build, scheduled for Friday, March 31, through Sunday, April 2, 2017.

Here are two ways for you to participate in this project.

First, you can support the Build through our fundraising efforts.  Beth Shalom has committed to raising $2000 for the Build and we are already more than halfway toward that goal! You can help us meet our goal at:  http://tinyurl.com/bsub2017 (Beth Shalom Unity Build 2017).

Second, you can support the Build by building!  You are free to participate at any time(s) that fit your schedule and desires.  The Beth Shalom building day is Sunday April 2 from 1-5.  The work will be physical, but will not require any special carpentry skills.  Skilled Habitat leaders will coordinate the effort.  You can sign up by e-mailing me (williams@indiana.edu) your Name and E-mail address.

This is an opportunity to help a local family take a huge step forward in their life, to show off your carpentry skills J and most importantly in this time of division, strife and loud rhetoric, to get to know, face-to-face, members of other faith congregations and faith-based student groups.

While building the house is a critical objective of this effort, the coming together and working together of Bloomington faith communities in this divisive time is equally important.  For more details see: https://monroecountyhabitat.org/volunteer-2/unity-build-2017/

As a bit more background here are some details of the family who we will be building for….

The Gustavo & Itzel Diaz Altamirano family.

Gustavo heard about Habitat through his brother, Arturo (who is having his dedication on Feb. 25th).  Itzel describes this as a miracle from God.  She said that you need to trust in God and have faith.  Gustavo has worked at Chili’s for 11 years and Itzel has worked at IU for about a year.  They have 5 children: Grisel (20), Damaris (18), Itzel (17), Gustavo (12) and Daniel (3).  They are coming from an overcrowded living situation and cannot wait to move into their new home.  Gustavo and Itzel have been at the construction site helping with Arturo’s house and they will soon begin building their own.  Damaris, Grisel, and Itzel are also working on the construction site to help their parents earn their Sweat Equity.

Building spots will go fast.  HfH would like our information no later than March 13.  Register now!!!
